12 in attendance.      Pastor, Marion, Jim and Diana traveled yesterday down to Springfield, Oregon to the Memorial service for Sister Norman Tyler and back home again late last night.  The services went well and God answered prayer for traveling grace all the way down and back.  Thank the Lord.   It was good to have two visitors today who were out here all the way from Kansas.

Memorial Service
Rev 14:13
And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.  (KJV)

We are here today in loving memory of Sister Norma Tyler.  The hard part is dealing with our loss but none of us would want to bring her back from heaven to the pain and sorrow of this wicked old world here below.  We have the comforting assurance of God’s word that for the believer in Christ, death is to be absent from the body and present with the Lord.  2Cor.5:8.

The Bible says that it is appointed unto men once to die and after this the judgment.  Heb 9:27.  There is a judgment for the just and a judgment for the unjust. The Saved will be rewarded for their faithful service at the Judgment Seat of Christ.  Rom 14:10. But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.  The unsaved will also receive their due reward at the Great White Throne judgment.  Rev 20:11-15.  And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

The difference between being saved and not being saved is found in the Gospel.  Rom 1:16. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

I believe Sister Tyler would want us to stress the truth of the Gospel today.  Paul wrote to Timothy under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit about how the Gospel is worthy to be received.  1Tim 1:15.  This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

He also gave one of the clearest descriptions of what the Gospel is all about in 1Cor 15:1-4.  Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
It is at times like this when we all need to look into our own hearts and examine ourselves and consider the question:  How do I stand with God?  Are you lost in sin?  Or, have you by faith, trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior?  The Bible says in Jn 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

As we prepare to move on with our lives, let us remember that God created man in an upright condition but man unmade himself by transgressing Gods law.  Rom 5:12. Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:   Rom.3:23.  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;   and Rom. 6:23. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The only remedy for our sin problem is Jesus Christ.  Lk 19:10. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.  Matt 1:21. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.  Jn 3:16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Jn.17:3. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

As we do our best to bring some closure to the departure of our loved one, we remember the Bible asks the age-old question:  If a man die, shall he live again?  Job14:14.

God’s word also gives us the answer to the question.  Job 19:25   For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:  and though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:  Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another…

The New Testament story of the resurrection of Lazarus in John chapter eleven reminds us that the Son of God has power to raise the dead.  In fact, Christ is the resurrection.
John 11:25-27.  Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:  And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

For the closing benediction, let us pray.

Heavenly Father, Thank you for the gift of life.  Thank you for the fond memories we have of our loved ones who have passed away.  More than anything else, thank you for the gift of spiritual life through your Son and His saving Gospel.  We come into this world with nothing and we leave the world the same way.  You formed us from the dust of the ground and it is back to the earth that our bodies go in death - until the resurrection.  Dust goes to dust and ashes to ashes.  The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away.  Blessed be the name of the Lord.  AMEN.
